FAITH?
At the mere mention of the word many people immediately assume that the presence of Faith requires you to be religious in some way. But that's not what I'm taking about here - with regard to Self Mastery, Faith is an essential element. It is the ability to believe in something for which there is no rational evidence. From a neuroscience perspective, our left brain always wants to have a reason 'why' whereas our right brain is content to 'go with the flow'.
The ability to have Faith in ourselves, others and, most importantly - a deeper meaning to life, is essential to allow us to be released from the need to 'work things out' at every step. Faith provides the bridge between the future and the present and lets us step into the 'flow' of life.
Can you release your worries and have Faith that everything is perfect right now?
Begin this month by reading the Theory, doing the exercises in the Toolbox and then committing half an hour a day to the Core Practice.
We have been led to believe that time flows forever forwards. That the past creates the present which in turn creates the future. This way of thinking sticks us well and truly in the mire of thinking, rationalising and worrying about how we can create the future we want. But is this true?
What if I suggested to you that time flows the other way around? That actually the future becomes the present which in turn becomes the past? That if you sit here right now perfectly still, doing nothing, the future will still continue to smack you right in the face. Could you release yourself from the mire of worrying and have some Faith then? Try this exercise:- Consider where you are right now in your life and then think back to all of the significant events, planned and unplanned, that have led you to be where you are right now. Identify the pathway that has led you to this point. Could it be possible that the future has actually created the Past? That the act of holding that Future possibility (which has now become reality) in your mind at some level (conscious or unconscious) has actually led you along a path to that reality?
Once you have done this exercise begin every day this month by doing some meditation and then consider the proposition that the future and the visions and dreams that we have for the future actually create our reality. Now say to yourself or write out "Even though I do not understand how the world works I choose to believe that everything is perfect right now"
Finally, release any worries or concerns you have to the Universe and set your intention that no matter what happens today, no matter how bad or good you may think it is, you will have Faith that it is happening for a very good reason - that you do not need to know what this reason is - and that everything is perfect right now.

To be able to truly let go of the consequences of your actions requires that you have some faith that there is some meaning in life. If you believe that life is really just a series of random events with no greater purpose then you probably wouldn’t be reading this book – because what would the point be of gaining any mastery over the self. Surely the simple solution then would just be to take the most hedonistic pleasure out of every moment.
Faith is the bridge that links the future with the present. It allows you to trust that what you are getting right now will somehow, in some yet to be known way, lead you to what you most need.
Strong faith that what you are getting right now is perfect creates the most fertile ground for the future you want to occur. If you doubt and question all the time – you doubt and question the future – hence you limit or hinder its creation.
How can this be?
Well this is the tautological nature of this metaphysical existence. You see you are the storyteller AND you are the story. You as the object are intimately tied to the subject. What you do, what you observe, what you focus on with your thoughts changes the nature of that object.
The resonance that you put out into the field draws a mirror back to you – even if you are not consciously aware of what you are resonating. For instance – as an aside – if you’ve had a particularly traumatic childhood and you have suppressed those memories and emotions to such an extent that you are not even aware of them – you will still resonate that vibration into the quantum field and hence you will still draw to you experiences that will give you the opportunity for healing. So what you are getting will still be perfect for you even though you may not believe that it is or may not even be able to comprehend why you have to go through the same traumatic experience over and over again.
But I digress.
If you can accept that what you are getting now is perfect for you right now then you can let go of the need to know why. The need to ask “Why me??” and instead – however joyous or painful it may be – embrace the experience with your whole presence.
In doing so you will not hinder the flow of energy. You will allow what needs to occur to occur and you will be able to get what ever you need to get and move forwards much more quickly.

So, don’t doubt the process. Don’t fight with reality – you will always lose.
Stop asking “Why me?” and let go of worry instead. If it is meant to be IT WILL BE.
If it is not meant to be there is nothing you can do that will make it come into reality. Let it go!
Having faith again allows you to be comfortable in uncertainty. It allows you to surrender to the will of the divine which in turn allows you to embrace the present.
Having faith allows you to release your fears and act courageously so that you can follow your passions and you can be in flow.
Have faith in yourself, in others and in life.

There is meaning but right now, right here, you don’t need to know what it is.
Just let it go and believe !
Faith is really all about release and surrender. From a neuroscience perspective the left hemisphere of your brain desperately seeks meaning in every situation – and in fact it will make up a reason or meaning behind things if one is not readily available. The right hemisphere of your brain is happy just to go with the flow.
So, Step 1 – create a logical, rational meaning behind life to satisfy good old left brain, and Step 2 – allow right brain to take the reins and be in the flow.
Simple eh? Maybe a bit cynical?
Maybe. But consider it this way – spiritual teachings generally tell us that the world is a mystery and we should never stop trying to understand it but we should never expect to be able to. Religious teachings generally say – we cannot comprehend the workings of the mind of God in action, we can only understand in retrospect.
Neuroscience and quantum physics says – be present and be careful what you focus on – so – don’t worry about the future because it only makes you a worrier.
Ontological philosophy says – plant the seeds for the future and then let it go and be truly present.
So…
I choose to release by concerns and worries about the future and I trust that what I am getting right now is perfect.
Whatever it is in the future that you are worried about you can consciously surrender and release it to a higher power.
Sit quietly with your eyes closed and relax – try doing some four fold breathing.
Then focus on the issue you are concerned about.
As you breathe in say “I am concerned about…”
Visualise breathing the issue into your heart and lungs.
Then breathe out and say “I realise and surrender this issue to a higher power”
And visualise exhaling the issue out of your heart and lungs and into the ether.
Do this as many times as it takes to find some peace with the issue.
This is an exercise to satisfy an existential construct for the benefit of your logical left brain.
Think about where you are in life now. Take a quiet moment and look backwards through time to see all of the events that have led you to where you are now.
Write them all down and join the dots through time.
Now write them all down in reverse order – that is from now going backwards through time.
Now trace a line backwards and consider the possibility that where you are now created all of the things that have already happened.
If that is the case – can you focus on your vision and completely let go of the path that will get you there? Just trust instead that if you hold it clearly enough in your mind and it is aligned with the highest good then you will be led there by spirit?
This is another exercise to satisfy your left brain.
It is again about focus and redirection.
Every time something happens to you that is in some way synchronous – write it down in your journal. By focussing on these events you will increase your awareness of them and in turn increase the frequency of them.
That means – any time you are just thinking about a friend and they phone – write it down. Any time anything happens by chance that is in alignment with what you want – write it down.
